Compatibility checks before ordering

Before buying the universal digital motorcycle speedometer, list every function the old dashboard provides. Speed and backlight are not enough. Check neutral, indicators, high beam, oil warning, fuel level, temperature, RPM, ABS and engine warning lights. If one of these functions is safety-critical and the new meter cannot support it, choose another solution.

  • Confirm operating voltage and whether a permanent memory feed is needed.
  • Check speed sensor type and magnet/pickup mounting options.
  • Measure wheel circumference for calibration.
  • Confirm RPM signal compatibility and pulse settings.
  • Check fuel sender range if fuel level will be connected.
  • Verify indicator, high beam, neutral and warning light input polarity.

Installation notes

Mount the display where it is easy to read but does not block the rider’s view or steering movement. Route wiring with enough slack for full handlebar lock, but not so much that it rubs on the frame or headstock. Use a fused ignition feed, proper ground, heat shrink and weather-resistant connectors.

Set the wheel circumference carefully. Koso installation material explains that the speed displayed depends on the circumference and sensing-point settings, and that the setting should be reset when tyre size changes. That principle applies to any similar magnetic-sensor speedometer.

Post-installation test routine

After wiring the display, test the motorcycle before refitting all trim. Turn the bars fully left and right while watching the harness. Start the engine and confirm that the display does not reset from vibration or charging voltage changes. Test indicators, high beam, neutral, warning lights and backlight one at a time.

On the first ride, compare the speed reading with a known-good reference on a safe road. If the speed is wrong, adjust circumference or pulse count rather than accepting a bad reading. Recheck the sensor bracket after the first ride because vibration can change the pickup gap.
